This describes a study conducted in Simpson Timber Company lands adjacent to Redwood National Park. The Del Norte salamander is a sensitive species, and this study of its distribution and habitat relates occurrence to habitat specifics. No immediate correlation was found with forest age or canopy cover. Investigations of substrate show more use of talus, of areas with an organic surface layer, and areas with northerly aspects than of other areas. The authors suggest that mitigation or limiting timber harvest to protect this species be site specific. Includes two tables of the relationship of habitat variables to occurrence, and two figures of occurrence related to forest age and canopy cover.
