This paper provides results of a study carried out at Joshua Tree National Monument between October 1966 and June 1967. Distribution patterns, densities, and population dynamics are reported for the micro-arthropods found in juniper litter and the underlying soil. The majority of the arthropods found consisted of mites. Carnivores generally slightly outnumbered primary consumers in litter, while primary consumers were almost 20 times as abundant in the mineral soil. Illustrations show density, frequency, abundance and other data.
