This article briefly summarizes a review of the literature that is most frequently cited as supporting a direct relationship between increased hunting of bears (or decreased number of males) and increased survivorship of subadults (reproductively immature bears. This review demonstrates that the authors of these studies usually have not concluded the existence of a relationship between hunting and increased subadult survival, although some believe it does exist. Literature presented includes studies from Yellowstone and Glacier National Parks as well as Alberta and Alaska.
