Disturbance of a Low-level Waste Burial Site Cover by Pocket Gophers

Hakonson TE, Martinez JL, White GC. 1982. Disturbance of a Low-level Waste Burial Site Cover by Pocket Gophers. Health Physics. 46(6):868-871

This experiment tested the rates of soil excavation from a low-level waste burial site by pocket gophers (Thomomys bottae). A test plot which simulated a waste burial site was established at Los Alamos National Laboratory, NM, to measure biological intrusion. The rates of mound formation and amounts of soil deposited are included.
