Describes and illustrates subovate, cell-like patterns on Precambrian and Mississippian rock surfaces in Wyoming and Montana locations. The pattern origin is the result of nest-building activity of modern bees. Morphology of the Montana markings most likely share the origin of the Wyoming site, where bee pupae of the genus Osmia, a holarctic bee) were identified conclusively. A site in Africa is also described.
