Application of snow models to snow removal operations on the Going-to-the-Sun Road, Glacier National Park

Fagre DB and Klasner F. 2000. Application of snow models to snow removal operations on the Going-to-the-Sun Road, Glacier National Park. Proceedings of International Snow Science Workshop 2000

SNOTEL (snow telemetry data) is used to predict conditions for the Going-to-the-Sun Road and help estimate a date for re-opening. This study can be found online at the USGS website as well. It includes graphs of Min, Max and average snowpack based on snow water equivalence as well as estimated and actual opening days for the road for several years.
