Data from a sound measurement survey conducted in 1981 within and in the vicinity of Glacier National Park are analyzed and presented. Measurements of oil/gas seismic exploration activities, helicopters, and associated activities on the Flathead and Helena National Forests are presented. The results corroborate anecdotal reports and biological studies which indicate that sound from oil and gas exploration activities can be heard well inside the park and could be affecting sensitive wildlife populations. Recommendations for additional monitoring and modeling are outlined.
