Little Lost Man Creek in Redwood National Park, California, is the site for this study of solutes in streams. In 1975, the authors traced losses of phosphate and nitrate to the environment by measuring chloride injected into this stream along with the nutrients. Levels of both phosphorus and nitrogen in the stream were naturally low; inadequate nitrogen possibly limited stream productivity. The paper attributes differences in uptake for the two nutrients to both biotic and abiotic factors and includes related data graphs and tables.
