This report describes the intertidal and shallow water invertebrates and algae of Soldier Key in Biscayne National Park. The shallow water is divided into zones which are classified according to the dominant inhabitants. These zones are probably representative of the other islands of the Florida Keys. This paper contains a list of all of the known plants and animals of Soldier Key. Journal abstract: The macroscopic intertidal and shallow water invertebrate and algal life of Soldier Key, a small island off the southeast coast of Florida, is described and certain zones of the shallow water are classified according to the most numerous inhabitant. These are, proceeding from the shore seaward, the Echinometra zone, the Porites-coralline zone, the Thalassia zone and the alcyonaria zone. These zones are believed to be characteristic of the other islands of the Florida Keys. The plants and invertebrates common to these zones are listed and some of their relationships discussed. All of the known animals and plants of the intertidal and shallow water of Soldier Key are listed along with their respective zonations. Abstract provided by author.
