The proposed Soda Ridge Research Natural area is located in northern Plumas County, CA on the Lassen National Forest at approximately 40 50' N latitude and 121 18' W longitude. the U.S. Geological Survey topographic map for the area is the Jonestown, CA 15' quadrangle. The area is drained by Soda Creek, which empties into the Feather river at Belden. this report describes the general ecological setting and vegetation of the proposed RNA, which extends from the crest of Soda Ridge on the south to approximately the 7,600 m (5,600 ft) contour on the north side of Soda Creek (Fig. 1). The summit of the eastern arm of Soda Ridge (1,825 m, 6,000 ft) is a large, level area which provides a natural boundary to the south. the proposed boundary follows the toe of this ridge to where it meets Soda Creek. the western boundary extends up a small intermittent tributary to Soda Creek in the SW corner of Section 28. The northern boundary coincides with the southern limit of the Peacock Point timber sales (Fig. 1). The field work for this investigation was conducted between June 31 and August 1, 1978.
