This study evaluates the ecological and taxonomic correlates of seed mass variation among 651 angiosperm species of the Indiana Dunes region. The role of natural selection in molding patterns of seed mass variation at the community level is assessed by statistically controlling different variables. The study demonstrates associations between seed mass and life form and habitat type. A summary of evidence for associations among species between seed mass and ecological life history characteristics is provided, with references for each variable. Numerous other tables indicate statistical data for each variable, and there is a lengthy species list.
