The author's dissertation gives details of studies of transects and plots, of classifying forests by their components, by a description of the dominant trees, and a discussion of climactic changes. He concludes that the spruce-fir forest, restricted to the higher elevations by relatively warmer weather since the retreat of the glaciers, is slowly gaining territory by moving into and then dominating the deciduous stands along a wide front.
