Experimental burns at Big Cypress National Preserve document a subsequent increase in flowering in all species in the plots, with the response of some species varying according to the season of burning. Most species flowered more abundantly following fire in February - June (late dry season to early wet season). Fire changed the time of flowering for only certain species; some species do not flower in the absence of fire.
