Report on the results of a 17-month study, from June 1983 to October 1984, to determine a baseline for fish and plankton populations for Padre Island National Seashore. In addition to assembling a baseline of species and abundance of surf fish, information regarding migration patterns, environmental factors influencing the catch, comparison of inshore plankton and fish, and size, growth, and seasonal variations were examined. Long-term results of red tides on fish populations are insignificant. The diversity of species is apparent in the identification of 62 species of fish, 42 types of plankton, and 35 species of invertebrates during the term of this study. These results have been compared with two earlier projects.
