This report summarizes the results of 1986 and 1987 field research on the effects of all-terrain vehicle (ATV) use on established, recovery, and new segments of trails in the vicinity of Anaktuvuk Pass. Thirteen study sites were selected in tundra community types representing a spectrum of moisture conditions. ATV effects on surface profiles, vegetation, soil exposure, and topography were studied. Disturbance increased for new segments that received ATV use during summer, and all but the wettest sites showed some recovery after 11 months of nonuse.
