This paper reports on the findings of the first year of a long-term monitoring study on the effects of ambient ozone on ozone-sensitive trees in Great Smoky Mountains National Park and Shenandoah National Park. In 1991, eight study plots were installed in the Smokies, and seven were installed in Shenandoah. Ozone levels were monitored at air quality stations and foliar damage was analyzed on the trees.
