This study compared species composition and structure of juvenile fish assemblages near the mouths of freshwater flood control canals to those in similar areas with relatively stable salinity. The study was conducted in Biscayne Bay, and two sites, Black Creek and Turkey Point, were inside Biscayne National Park. Some of the measured parameters include water temperature, salinity, dissolved oxygen, depth, and bottom vegetation. The purpose of the survey was to determine if osmoregulatory ability determined the distribution and abundance of fish in the bay in areas with narrow versus wide salinity variation.
