Annual surveys in this series provide quantitative data on steelhead trout spawning in streams of the Redwood Creek basin. In this 12th year of surveying, snorkelers found only 7 steelhead, which includes one dead one. Water quality is poor, with temperatures considerably above that preferred by steelhead, and all the fish seen were in pools (which are usually cooler). The report notes that recent change in fishing regulations should benefit the fish; however, despite park efforts to restore habitat in the Redwood Creek basin, recovery will be a slow process, and interim protection of the few fish remaining is necessary if they are to survive at all. Includes discussion of water temperatures with data table; tables of total steelhead numbers (1981-1992) and individual descriptions of the 7 seen in 1992; graph of mainstem Redwood Creek daily temperatures.
