The report summarizes ground-water conditions at fly-ash settling ponds adjacent to the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore. These ponds are used by the Northern Indiana Public Service Companay Bailly Generating Station and serve to accumulate fly-ash from the coal burned in the two coal-fired units on the site. The report also describes the construction of and results obtained from a digital model of the ground-water system dewatering on ground-water levels within the National Lakeshore. There is a description of the regional setting (including maps) and previous work that has been done on the subject. There are also segments on hydraulic characteristics of the unconsolidated deposits, ground-water movement, ground-water pumpage, and model simulations. Numerous figures accompany the text, including maps of the geographic elements of the area, cross-sections, hydrographs, model simulations, and data summary tables.
