Although the popular press continues to hold the view that the loggerhead sea turtle, Caretta caretta, is a creature whose behavior is governed by "the tug of moon-pulled tides", members of the scientific community have been unable to reach a consensus as to whether emergences from the sea are associated with tidal cycles. Some authors report no association, while others report one, and still others obtain results which vary from year to year.
