A report based on on-going research into the effect of urban encroachment on wildlife communities in natural habitats within the Santa Monica Mountains. The methodology of the research involves the study of relative abundance and diversity of full time resident bird and small mammal species in areas near urban environments. Research objectives presented in this paper focus on the impact of urban exposure on species at the community level and the effect of habitat alteration on resident bird and small mammal community patterns.
