The location for this study is the Little Bald Hills area in the northern part of Redwood National Park. Lichen samples from the lower branches of Douglas firs were analyzed for heavy metals and other elements to provide baseline information. Changes can be documented if pollution sources in the future affect park resources. Forty-three lichen species are known from the Little Bald Hills, the only park area surveyed for lichens to that date. This report gives details of methods and statistical analyses (with tables of variance and summary statistics), and suggests future use of these lichens in biomonitoring. It presents the biogeochemical and geochemical data for work in Redwood National Park in the appendices: specimen data (chemical composition) and serpentine soil data from Little Bald Hills.
