From the Introduction: "Recent rapid and widespread destruction of western Washington's native glacial outwash prairies has made conservation and management of the few remaining patches of this unique habitat a priority. Many taxa that rely on prairie habitat may be vulnerable to extinction if effective land management is not initiated. This report forcuses on one such species, the Mazama pocket gopher (Thomonys mazama), which includes several subspecies that are endemic to Puget Sound prairies. The overall goal of this project was to collect information that will be useful towards recommending biologically-based management strategies for the Mazama pocket gopher." This species is found within Olympic National Park, WA.
