About nine miles of a haul road into redwood forest formerly owned by the Simpson Lumber Company was included in the area added to Redwood National Park in 1978. The K&K Road is an important road in the Redwood Creek basin. However, in addition to being affected by logging use and disturbance of the hillslopes, part of the road was on very unstable terrain; there were also administrative problems for the Park Service. Simpson Timber Company agreed to relocate part of the road if sufficiently compensated, and this Environmental Assessment describes the proposed road adjustment. The two segments of a relocated road would be in the Coyote Creek drainage and in the Bald Hills area; two options are described for each segment. Background information on the natural resources of the affected area includes geology and soils, vegetation, wildlife, and aquatic resources. Environmental consequences of the options are listed. Appendices describe the hillslopes, rehabilitation work, erosion impacts, and plant list.
