The pattern of vegetational communities along the North Rim of the Grand Canyon is described. It consists of pinyon pine, ponderosa pine and sagebrush. According to the author, there is evidence showing that pinyon pine only grows in a thin band along the rim because of climatic conditions caused by the canyon, not because of elevational change.
