Report on the results of an underwater mission to establish baseline information for long-term monitoring in the Salt River Canyon, St. Croix. Established transects and photoquadrats. Created a videotape for analysis. Gathered turbidity and total suspended solids data for water at different depth. Includes a list of coral species and substrates encountered, tables of coral data (percent live and dead, diversity and number of species), and water quality data. Appendix III is a paper "Preliminary report" effects of Hurricane Hugo on the benthic coral reef community of Salt River submarine canyon, St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands" by C. A. Kesling, described in more detail in a separate record in this database.d
