The management decisions discussed in this paper concern the Redwood Creek basin, Redwood National Park, California. Watershed restoration in this area began in 1978 with work on former logging roads and adjacent hillslopes. Following restorative work on nearly half the road mileage between 1978 and 1996, a reduced budget is requiring close examination of priorities for the remaining work. Since related aspects encompass various disciplines, these authors and park co-workers in many fields combined efforts to evaluate relative resource values and risks. The paper explains how the team worked to identify roads needing treatment and to incorporate information regarding the various kinds of resources in the necessary final decisions.
