This is one of a series of annual summaries of park management activity in connection with the Redwood Creek estuary. It provides background on the problems of balancing flood control efforts with maintaining habitat for juvenile salmonids. It describes water level manipulations, which prevented flooding of neighboring lands, but maintained only marginal salmonid habitat during 1986. Research during the year included water quality, aquatic invertebrates, and juvenile salmonids. It also includes proposed activities for 1987, a map showing areas excavated several years before (1983), and a topographic/bathymetric profile. Some population and growth statistics for steelhead trout and chinook salmon are included, along with a description of a project to construct an intake to the south slough (with location map, construction drawing).
