With a Congressional mandate to rehabilitate logged land along Redwood Creek, erosion control and revegetation were begun in 1978. This report evaluates progress during the first winter, particularly regarding effects of the typical high winter flows on erosion control structures. The five test sites chosen had sustained varying degrees of damage. Work on all involved heavy equipment and work crews, and results show that rehabilitation efforts did effectively reduce severe erosion during the first winter season. Specific actions/effectiveness are described, and the summary notes that more aggressive heavy-equipment work would be beneficial for future efforts. Revegetation will be further evaluated after the hot, dry summer season. The 84 figures include black-and-white photographs, drawings of techniques, and a map; also: 3 other site maps and tables of costs.
