Inventory of anchialine pools in the Awakee/Makalawena & Kohanaiki districts, North Kona, Hawaii. Pool location, conditions, and species present were recorded. Four new invertebrates and a new distributional record for the snail Neritilia hawaiiensis were found; this was attributed in part to night sampling. Noticeable degredation of pools was noted; this included physical modification, contamination, and encroachment by undesirable aquatic biota. High biological diversity found in this survey contrasts with low diversity found in other studies; this is attributed to sampling effort. Author recommends that a minimum of 2 daytime and 2 nighttime surveys be conducted in each pool at or above mean higher high water when inventorying; any studies which do not make this effort should be considered incomplete.
