This is an evaluation of potential habitat to support released populations of Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep (Ovis canadensis) in the Santa Fe National Forest of New Mexico. Areas were measured for suitable habitat, escape habitat, escape terrain contiguity, lambing grounds, forage, and winter range or water avalability. The areas studied are White Rock Canyon, Chama River, Ojitos Canyon, and Santa Fe Baldy. Each study site is described in regards to suitability and human impact and mapped for potential range and release sites.
