Bats fly from Carlsbad Caverns every evening. An earlier estimate of the number of bats leaving the cave each night was 3 million. The author made a new calculation which puts the total bat population at closer to 9 million. In calculating the number of bats issuing from the cave, the speed of flight was estimated to be about 20 miles per hour. The time of flight out of the cave was between 7:30 pm until 7:21 pm.
