A pilot study, in the Big Spring Groundwater Basin in Mammoth Cave National Park, to determine the usefulness of high-frequency, flow-dependent sampling strategies for water quality determination of karst springs. It was found that the concentrations of two non-point source pollutants, fecal coliform bacteria and suspended sediment, greatly exceeded pre-runoff event values. The methods and results are discussed and conclusions specific to Big Spring and generally applicable to many karst springs are drawn from the data collected.
