Nine of 168 dead or dying bald eagles found in the wild and examined in 1975-77 apparently died of lead poisoning. This experiment used 6 bald eagles which were unsuitable for release or captive breeding. One was a control while the other five were dosed with lead shot. Four of these died, the fifth became blind.
