The purpose of the bacteria surveys conducted in 1987 and 1988 is to determine which parts of the New River mainstem and which of several important tributaries located within the NRGNR boundary are in violation of the fecal coliform bacteria criterion of the WestVirginia Water Resources Board during the main water-contact recreation season.
