This letter to the editor debates the opinion expressed by Johnson (1978) that there was no land-bridge between the Channel Islands and the mainland in the Pleistocene. The author believes that the concept of animal species reaching the Channel Islands via rafts or swimming is not convincing and not substantiated by evidence.
