This is the 1988 Final Environmental Impact Statement for the wilderness recommendation for Cape Krusenstern National Monument. The environmental impacts of the proposed wilderness recommendation and three alternatives are examined. The alternatives range from no action to considering all suitable lands as wilderness. The proposed action recommends 465,000 acres (about 74% of the study area) for wilderness designation and around 2,200 acres as a potential wilderness addition. It would exclude just over 166,000 acres (26% of the study area) from wilderness, leaving that portion open to possible development. Allowable development in wilderness areas might include a ranger station at Imik Lagoon, boundary markers at trail entries, and a safety cabin four miles north of Krusenstern Lagoon.
