This 1990 final environmental impact statement assesses the cumulative impacts of multiple mining operations in Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and Preserve. Four alternatives were evaluated for managing mining activity, analyzing cumulative impacts, and mitigating environmental impacts. The alternatives were analyzed for their impacts on wetlands, aquatic resources, wildlife habitat, subsistence, recreation, visitor use, visual quality, wilderness values, cultural resources, and the socioeconomic environment. The proposed action, alternative D, calls for all patented and valid unpatented mining claims to be acquired and for NPS to process mining plans of operations during acquisition.
