Scanned report of a study of the flora and fauna of the park as a result of land development surrounding the park. This year-long study was undertaken to provide baseline data to determine the physical and chemical water quality characteristics at selected sampling locations within Morristown National Historic Park, Morristown, NJ. It began on October 16, 1982 with a monthly field monitoring program for water quality which included dissolved oxygen, temperature, conductivity, pH, stream velocity and discharge measurements. Also, a seasonal water chemistry sampling program was begun on November 11, 1982 that quantitatively determined 15 water chemistry parameters for each monitoring station. This baseline data can be used to determine the impact, if any, of future development or environmental changes in and around Morristown National Historic Park. Included are water resource maps of the park's surface water topography. This study also include population and species diversity assessments of benthic invertebrates, fish, reptiles, and amphibians, in order to obtain a general picture of the diversity of aquatic and terrestrial life within the park. The conclusions of the report state that: surface water is of outstanding quality; and there are balanced, diverse communities of benthic macroinvertebrates, fish, and amphibians. Further study could be done on fecal coliforms levels at Primose Brook and aluminum levels. Any future development should be carefully assessed as to how they might impact the existing high quality enviroment at the park. Appendices include data from the study.
