This provides background information and recommendations for protection for the Big Cypress Area of Critical State Concern. The study stems from a 1973 conservation act in the Florida legislature (text included as Appendix C) regarding this area in the southwestern part of the state. (Shortly afterward, part of the Big Cypress Swamp was incorporated in the new Big Cypress National Preserve.) This report contains recommendations for boundary and land development regulations to protect the natural resources, especially the critical water resources on which the rest depend. The appendices include a legal description of the suggested boundary, and estimated land area (by county) of the proposed National Fresh Water Reserve and Recommended area of Critical State Concern. [Appendix B apparently is a map of the recommended boundary -- missing from the copy available.]
