First records of the pocketed free-tailed bat for Texas

On 25 July 1967, 3 pocketed free-tailed bats, Tadarida femorosacca, 2 lactating females and 1 adult male, were netted over a dirt water tank at Giant Dagger Yucca Flats, elevation about 3000 feet, in Big Bend National Park, Texas. On 7 August 1967, an additional lactating female was netted at the same waterhole. The area of capture was a low, hot valley with no prominent high cliffs or canyons, only numerous rolling hills with small rocky ledges. Dominant plants in the area included creosotebush, sotol, candelilla, and giant dagger yucca. This is the easternmost record for the U.S.
