The fish examined in this lower Redwood Creek study comprise 11 species: anadromous salmonids, non-game species, and several euryhaline species. The author investigated seasonal and spatial patterns, as well as competition and diet overlap among species. While juvenile chinook salmon consume drift organisms to a large extent, other species rely more on local benthic organisms. Some fish eat chironomids or crustaceans; in the fall, an important food for some is the Corophium found in the embayment at that time. The author attributes lack of food from terrestrial sources to removal of riparian habitat in levee construction. Little limitation because of food competition was found, and also little predation by fish on other fish. Sections discuss diets of each species individually, then present comparisons. Appendices: taxonomic list of prey items and their dry weights, and details on total stomach contents of many or all of the 582 fish captured (taxonomic identification and life history stage of each food item, frequency of occurrence and percentage by number/weight).
