Report on floods on St. John. Consists of the following sections: Flood history; Flood frequency; Flood profile; Inundated areas; Water-surface contours; Depth of flooding for St. John. This report provides actual and interpretive information that will aid administrators, planners, engineers, and other interested persons concerned with future development in areas subject to flooding in St. John, V.I. More specifically, the information given here is useful to those responsible for formulating effective floodplain regulations that would minimize flood damage. This presentation is the result of a compilation of hydrologic data pertaining to floods along the north coast of St. John, V.I. and is based principally upon information obtained by personnel of the U.S. Geological Survey who visited the area shortly after the flood of March 1, 1969. Historical data was supplied by the local residents.All elevations given are in feet. above mean sea level. St. John is the third largest island of the more than 40 that make up the U.S. Virgin Islands and is located about 60 miles due east of Puerto Rico and about 4 miles east of St. Thomas, V.I. Figure 1.
