Surveyed flora and fauna of lava environment; studied relationships between distributions and kipuka size/degree of isolation. Study might be useful for future monitoring. Geographic location:kipukas on CRMO (Craters of the Moon National Monument) lava flow, Wapi flow, and flows along Great Rift. Study objectives: 1) to complete a survey of the flora and fauna of the lava environment; 2) to determine the composition and distribution of major plant communities in relation to some soil and topographic parameters; 3) to assess the distribution of certain reptile and small mammal species in relation to plant communities and in relation to the presence, size, degree of isolation, and environmental heterogenity of kipukas; and 4) to determine minimum habitat size and quality requirements for maintaining populations of certain animals.
