Results of fieldwork on the vegetation of Mount Wanda (part of John Muir National Historic Site) and recommendations for management. Characterizes the plants found (253 species of vascular plants, 37% of which are non-native and one of which is a rare endemic). Describes the four main vegetation types (annual grassland, blue oak woodland, mixed evergreen forest and chaparral). Also describes human use over the past 200 years (Native American, Spanish-Mexican and American) with the results of pollen analysis of adobe bricks from the house built in 1849. Includes a 5-page list of plant species, a vegetation map, and tables of herbaceous cover, tree cover and tree diameters.
