Floyd Bennett Field, Gateway National Recreation Area: Environmental inventory and preliminary land use program. Basic Agreement No. CX-2000-9, 0005, work directive No. 9-0005-79-01.. US Department of Interior, National Park Service, Denver Service Center. Denver

The work here involves the environmental inventory and preliminary land-use program investigations for Floyd Bennett Field. The project entailed 16 months of study by the Joint Venture, numerous consultants, and special participants selected from around the nation. The Environmental Inventory portion of the study establishes a data base of information necessary to proceed with the complex planning and decision-making tasks which lie ahead. As reported elsewhere in this volume, physical data includes investigation of the soil conditions, groundwater table, fertility analysis and limited toxic wastes analysis, noise, air quality, erosion, hazards and nuisances, existing buildings on the site, climate and storm implications and energy, among others. This is obviously not an exhaustive list of subject areas which could have been investigated. Rather it represents a selective number of areas thought to be critical by the National Park Service at this phase of the project. Therefore, the data collection phase, while formally complete at this writing, may require extension into the subsequent phases of the work as the project proceeds and additional information is deemed necessary.
