During 1980, the authors investigated food habits of 11 fish species in the Redwood Creek estuary and adjacent stream and sloughs. Study purpose was comparison of fish diets, along with identification of organisms consumed, seasonal and spatial dietary patterns, and levels of dietary overlap. Stomach contents of the fishes were analyzed. The 11 fish species are of four different types: anadromous, freshwater, marine, and euryhaline. Dipterans are an important food for most species, with aquatic crustaceans being particularly important during the summer for juvenile steelhead and prickly sculpin in the estuary. Overlap in diets and predation among fish species are found to be insignificant. Three data tables.
