While none of the study areas is in Saguaro National Monument, one of the three is nearby in the Tucson Mountains. Stomach contents and observed forage of javelina are investigated, and prickly pear found to be a major diet item. Other foods depend on the plant community type. Seasonal patterns of feeding were observed, with midday rest periods taken in warmer months. Competition between peccaries and cattle probably would only occur in rare cases of high density of peccaries and very limited food supply.
