The study found that the rootings of the wild boar impacted plant species with corms, tubers, and roots. The biomass decline was precipitous, but the authors predict relative stability with no extinctions after a period of about 20 years. A cautionary note followed, in that the wild boar population continues to expand, and greater density might call for other conclusions based on subsequent data.
