This document proposes management actions addressing issues and problems facing Gates of the Arctic National Park and Preserve for the next 10 years. There are three major elements within this document.The first element is the draft general management plan, which includes proposals for managing wilderness, wild rivers, natural and cultural resources, subsistence and visitor uses, and determining National Park Service needs for operations and facilities. The draft general management plan also includes alternatives considered and environmental consequences of the proposal and alternatives. The second element is the land protection plan, which discusses non federal lands and other interests in and around the unit and methods to protect the purposes for which the unit was created. The third element is the wilderness suitability review,which evaluates the suitability of non wilderness lands within the park and preserve for inclusion in wilderness.
